Viva España!

No comments:
This is a non-nail polish post.

Congratulations to Spain for retaining their Euro title!

It was a classy example of tiki-taka at its best. Boring? At times, perhaps. But only because they stick to their winning philosophy of holding on to possession. It certainly wasn't boring last night.

The possession game is a patient game. It’s efficient; you conserve energy because there’s no need to chase down a ball that’s already with your team. It’s frustrating – for your opponents; they can’t shoot (much less score) without the ball. Most of all, it’s rewarding; especially when you find that perfect pass (just one) that leads to a goal.

To me, this is the beautiful game. Defensive, possessive and aggressive all at the same time. With each pass, Spain hopes to frustrate their opponents and open up their defence  It may look like they’re passing for the sake of passing, but no, they’re playing a waiting game. Their waiting game.

This generation of Spanish footballers is indeed a golden generation. They have redefined the way football is played. Their players are simply amazing without being the tallest or strongest. I could list so many of their players but I’ll keep it to just one: Andrés Iniesta – voted best player of the tournament.
Physically, Iniesta doesn't look very inspiring. At just 1.7m (5 ft 7), he’s not considered tall. He’s also a lightweight, not brawny enough to shove his way pass his opponents. But despite all these, he is pure magic with the ball. He skips pass defenders with the ball appearing to be magnetized to his feet. He sees almost impossible chances and passes the perfect through ball with spot-on timing. Basically, he is a nightmare for his opponents; they know it and he knows it.

And he is just one among the many. Perhaps in another time or in a different country, such players would not have been cultivated or valued. But Spain has taken what they have, nurtured their talents, and created their own brand of football. Tiki-taka – love it or hate it, one thing is sure: Spain has thrived on it.

Cult Nails Haul

No comments:
It’s Labor Day today in many countries. So wherever you are, Happy Labor Day!

I also wanted to tell you guys that my order from Cult Nails came!! I ordered during the sale and most of the polishes I wanted were already sold out. So what did I get?

Don’t you love the packaging? They’re cute little burritos that are made from recycled materials. Plus, there are cottons balls for extra padding. Totally what a lacquer head needs! I’m already starting to love this brand and I haven’t even seen the polishes yet!

Seduction is the main reason for this order. I didn’t want to miss it like Clairvoyant as the supply for flakies are currently limited. However, I’m just as excited to test the other shades too! And Wicked Fast, which is a quick dry top coat.

Once again, Happy Labor Day!

First Swaps

No comments:
I'm sorry I haven't posted any swatches in almost two months! What I thought was a simple graphics card failure turned out to be a bigger issue with my computer. Every time I thought it would be okay now, another piece of hardware died on me. In total, six parts were changed: graphics card, two RAM chips, two fans, and the main hard drive (I sound so technical here, heh). Even after all that, my computer’s still cranky – I’ve become very familiar with the Blue Screen of Death (BSoD). If you don’t know what’s that, give thanks and hope you don’t ever need to find out.

But, there’s good news in all this: I will be back to posting starting this week. While my good friend, BSoD, occasionally pops by, my computer runs fine otherwise.

To start things off, I’m very excited to announce that I did my first swaps last year! I’ve never swapped polishes before, or even mailed anything overseas! So when I was first approached, I had a ton of questions! The two ladies I swapped with were very sweet and patient; they made the experience fun and enjoyable!

I also want to give a little shout out to Happyberrynaiad as she very kindly answered my emails and taught me about swapping etiquette. Her advice was really helpful!

In the first package I received two awesome holograhics! I know they don’t appear holo in my picture, but trust me, they are very much so!

The second package was a bigger one, containing five polishes. We actually agreed on three but she generously added the two Sinful Colors as extras!

I’ve tried Calm/Wild last month since it was a cold and rainy month. I figured that was the best time of the year to try a mood polish in Singapore but I didn’t manage to take pictures though.

This year, I wish to swap with someone with access to Revlon and L’Oreal! They released so many interesting shades last year! I know we have Revlon here but the range isn’t anything to brag about. Plus they’re rather expensive! In return, I have access to Estessimo TiNs, Elainto and other Asian brands. Here’s to hoping someone might offer (:

China Glaze Magnetix

No comments:

China Glaze is releasing a magnetic collection in 2012! This is really good news for me because I've wanted magnetic nail polishes for the longest time! It's not easy to find such polishes in Singapore as it's rather hard to find Essence, Nails Inc or LCN Magnetic. The only time I ever saw magnetic polishes in person was in my secondary school days; remember those old L'Oreal Star Magnets in Watsons and Guardian?

There's no fixed date for when this collection will be released but many bloggers suspect a Spring/ Summer release. I can't wait to get my hands on these babies!

Downtime

No comments:
My desktop containing all my pictures is down so I won't be able to post before I get it fixed. Luckily, it doesn't seem to be a hard drive problem but graphics card issue. In the meantime, I'll see if I can use another computer for the time being.

On another note, did anyone notice a new tab at the top of my page? Click on the Giveaways tab and it shows some of the giveaways (or contests) that are currently going on. They are organized by fellow nail bloggers that I read and follow. I don't claim to know all the giveaways out there but those that I know of I'll add to the page.
