Strawberry Jelly Sandwich

My first jelly sandwich! What is that? It's basically glitter sandwiched between two jelly layers. Since jelly polishes are not meant to be opaque, it showcases the glitter underneath it beautifully. It's been popular on the Nail Board for a while and I thought, why not try it with a black glitter instead? I had the idea to try it with a red jelly and thought that it would be perfect for Chinese New Year since red is considered an auspicious color.

Does this remind you of strawberries? Because this is what it makes me think of! Essie First Dance is a neutral tone red jelly-cream and I love how squishy it is. I secretly wanted to lick my nails because they looked so yummy!

Since First Dance is a little opaque as a jelly, I tried to do the second coat as thinly as possible. I also gave extra dry time for the glitter to set as the brush can drag the glitter around, as seen in the bald spot in my middle finger.

Thanks for looking!

Happy Chinese (Lunar) New Year! I wanted to post this up two days ago but did not manage to. This is not my current manicure though, I have a red jelly sandwich on my nails. I'll try to post that one up by next week! In the meantime, here's an awesome duochrome!

Blue-green base with pink/ purple/ gold duochrome shimmer. This shade really reminds me why I love duochromes! I kept staring at my nails while I had it on; the color shift is very pretty!

The formula gave me no problems except for the slight brushstrokes. The brush was easy to control so that wasn’t a big deal. I noticed a few bald spots after my nails dried, but I think that was an application issue on my part.

Dark purple jelly with red/ green flakes, blue/ purple glitter & silver shimmer. This is supposedly a dupe for OPI Merry Midnight and Orly Fowl Play. I don’t have either but I did find someone who did a comparison between the three. In my opinion, this looks identical to FP while having the sheerness of MM.

I have a love-hate relationship with the Sasatinnie brush. Although the shape and size allows me good control, the stem is too short and the cap too bulky for my liking. The bristles are also a little stiff and uneven in length.

As I mentioned, this is one sheer polish. When I decide to do a full mani, I’ll layer this over a base color instead. Still, it’s a good alternative for local ladies who want FP or MM at a cheaper price. I bought it at two for SGD $5 at Sasa together with another flakie.

Thanks for reading!

First Swaps

I'm sorry I haven't posted any swatches in almost two months! What I thought was a simple graphics card failure turned out to be a bigger issue with my computer. Every time I thought it would be okay now, another piece of hardware died on me. In total, six parts were changed: graphics card, two RAM chips, two fans, and the main hard drive (I sound so technical here, heh). Even after all that, my computer’s still cranky – I’ve become very familiar with the Blue Screen of Death (BSoD). If you don’t know what’s that, give thanks and hope you don’t ever need to find out.

But, there’s good news in all this: I will be back to posting starting this week. While my good friend, BSoD, occasionally pops by, my computer runs fine otherwise.

To start things off, I’m very excited to announce that I did my first swaps last year! I’ve never swapped polishes before, or even mailed anything overseas! So when I was first approached, I had a ton of questions! The two ladies I swapped with were very sweet and patient; they made the experience fun and enjoyable!

I also want to give a little shout out to Happyberrynaiad as she very kindly answered my emails and taught me about swapping etiquette. Her advice was really helpful!

In the first package I received two awesome holograhics! I know they don’t appear holo in my picture, but trust me, they are very much so!

The second package was a bigger one, containing five polishes. We actually agreed on three but she generously added the two Sinful Colors as extras!

I’ve tried Calm/Wild last month since it was a cold and rainy month. I figured that was the best time of the year to try a mood polish in Singapore but I didn’t manage to take pictures though.

This year, I wish to swap with someone with access to Revlon and L’Oreal! They released so many interesting shades last year! I know we have Revlon here but the range isn’t anything to brag about. Plus they’re rather expensive! In return, I have access to Estessimo TiNs, Elainto and other Asian brands. Here’s to hoping someone might offer (:
