OPI Dating A Royal

A deep blue jelly from the 2008 Mod About Brights Collection. It's a beautiful royal blue that's both chic and flattering. This took three coats to achieve opacity as the formula is a little watery, but it wasn't too difficult to control. The first coat goes on like a watercolor and it improves with a second coat. There were bald spots on most nails so I added a third coat on all nails to be consistent.

The thin watery formula gives the polish a jelly-like consistency that looks really squishy and yummy in real life. All that shine also comes from the polish itself since no top coat was used.

The removal was a painless process, with no staining on my nails even though I did not use a base coat. Yay to no smurf fingers! A perfect royal blue jelly, what more could I ask for?

Sally Hansen Grape Going!: index and ring fingers (three coats)
Rescue Beauty Lounge Scrangie: middle and little fingers (two coats)

As stated in my earlier post, the main difference between the polishes is the shimmer, Scrangie has green shimmer and Grape Going!, blue shimmer. On photo, the blue shimmer is shows up clearly while the green shimmer is more difficult to capture. However, in real life it's pretty clear that they're two different polishes.

From a different angle, Grape Going!'s blue shimmer is less visible but it's still quite obvious they're different polishes. Grape Going! has a slightly lighter purple base. Both are beautiful colors to own but I love the green shimmer in Scrangie. I understand that Scrangie was created to look like a beetle's wing and I think that it does! In terms of application, Scrangie is better as Grape Going! has some visible brushstrokes. Scrangie applied like a dream for me but I'm sure I could have done Grape Going! in two coats if I had been more careful. Both colors were applied without base coat or top coat.

Both polishes are similar but not dupes. Grape Going! a medium purple with blue shimmer and a slight blue duochrome. Scrangie is also a medium purple but with green iridescence and shimmer. Scrangie also has a slightly darker pureple base. The most telling difference is the color of the shimmer. I guess they could be called cousins. I'll do a comparison nail swatch to show the differences soon. I've done the comparison swatch here.

OPI My Daddy’s The King

A pinkish peach with silver pearl shimmer from the 2006 Princess Charming collection. Click on the picture to enlarge it and the subtle pearl shimmer can be seen on the ring finger. I applied three coats as the polish was streaky and sheer. It could have used a fourth coat as there were bald patches on my middle and ring fingers. Still, I think this color is really pretty as it's not a plain pink cream. The shimmer adds just a touch of elegance to this shade of peach.

I first saw a swatch of this polish on Scrangie's blog and knew that I had to have it. I prefer peach colours to pinks and I love pearl finishes. But since it was discontinued, I had trouble hunting it down. None of the e-tailers had it and I couldn't find it at any of the retail outlets (not that I would pay S$23.50 for an OPI, even a discontinued one). Finally, after much Googling, I found a local website that had a last bottle dug up from their supplier and I grabbed it! Even though it's sheer and streaky, I feel that My Daddy's The King was worth the effort! I find that most peaches are usually too orange and I hate that. While most pinks are, well, too pink. This shade was just right for me.
